Norwich City player Paris Maghoma is being looked into by police after online pictures seemed to depict him on his phone while driving. The footballer, who recently found the net for his team in the 3-1 win at Charlton on Saturday 24 October, later deleted the posts from his profiles.
Pictures posted first on TikTok and then on X showed Maghoma taking photos with a phone as he sat in the driver's seat of a car on a major road. UK rules state that drivers seen using a hand-held phone can receive penalty points and a financial penalty. It is not known exactly when the images were captured or if the car was in motion, and no violation has been established.
The club has chosen not to speak about the incident. Maghoma became a Norwich player earlier this year and scored a goal that leveled the score in a match that stopped a losing streak. That result improved the team's position in the league, where they currently sit 20th on 12 points from four wins and eight losses. The victory at Charlton was a rare bright spot in a recent run of one win and four losses in their last five matches.
Some fans observed that Maghoma did not celebrate his goal near the away supporters, which some believed was due to negative comments online about the social media activity. One supporter contacted the local police force online, suggesting the driver should receive penalty points.
A podcast host discussed the event. "He is a role model to youngsters and you've got to have a bit about yourself," he stated. "I do not know if he just has not thought. It is common sense, isn't it?
This occurs as the team gets ready for an important upcoming home game against a nearby rival, a match with implications for the league table. Norwich host Watford, who are 21st, on Saturday 31 October. Maghoma can still be selected to play while the police assessment is ongoing. The club's top scorer this season is M.
