Norwich City academy defender Takudzwa Gwanzura has been called up to the Zimbabwe Under-23 squad for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The 18-year-old is one of three Canaries youngsters selected for the matches against Mauritius during this international break.

Gwanzura's selection is powered by a deep family connection to Zimbabwean football. His grandfather is Eric Nyakudya Gwanzura, the namesake of Harare's landmark Gwanzura Stadium. "I remain incredibly proud of my Zimbabwean roots and I am ready to represent Zimbabwe whenever the opportunity arises," said Gwanzura.

He joined Norwich's academy as a 16-year-old in February 2025 after spells with Everton and Blackpool. He has since become a regular for the club's Under-18s, though he is yet to feature for the Under-21s in Premier League 2. His parents have been a constant support since he first kicked a ball at age four, guiding his development on and off the pitch.

"I want to make my country, my granddad, my grandmother Evelyn, and the entire family proud," Gwanzura added. Success in these qualifiers could lead to the U23 AFCON finals, which also serve as a pathway to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Norwich's first team, currently 17th in the Championship with nine points from eight games, will resume action at Swansea on 10 October. Gwanzura's international duty comes as the senior side looks to improve on a recent run of three consecutive league defeats.
