Norwich City has opened a book of condolences at Carrow Road for supporters to pay tribute to honorary life president Michael Wynn Jones. The club confirmed he died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.
Flags at the stadium were lowered to half-mast on Monday afternoon as a mark of respect. The book will be available in the Lion & Castle hospitality lounge from midday on Tuesday. It will remain there until midday on Friday, with the venue open for extended hours and serving drinks to raise money for St Elizabeth Hospice, in accordance with the family’s wishes.
Over the weekend, the book will be moved to the South Stand reception area, open from 9am to III on Saturday and Sunday. Supporters visiting the stadium to sign the book will not be charged for parking.
A club spokesman said: "First and foremost, Michael was a Norwich City supporter at heart." He added: "At the request of the family, we ask that their privacy be respected at this sad time as they mourn the passing of their loved one."
A lasting legacy
Norwich City will work with the family on a permanent tribute to Wynn Jones’s life and legacy at Carrow Road. A further tribute is planned prior to one of the club’s upcoming home fixtures.
Wynn Jones and his wife Delia Smith first became involved with the club in 1996 at the invitation of then-chairman Geoffrey Watling. They became majority shareholders two years later and oversaw five promotions to the Premier League, helping steer Norwich towards long-term financial stability. While Smith was often the public face of the ownership, Wynn Jones played a key role behind the scenes as a trusted adviser and influential boardroom figure.
The news comes as the team prepares for its next Championship fixture away to Swansea City. The club's recent form has seen them lose their last three matches, leaving them 17th in the standings. The team's current position reflects a challenging start, having conceded 11 goals while scoring only 8, a statistic detailed in the club's stats page. The focus now turns to the upcoming match as the squad looks to halt this slide.
