A Brace to Remember
Tairyk Arconte, 22, opened his Millwall account with a brace against Norwich City on his home debut. The Guadeloupean striker put the visitors on the back foot early in the first half, tucking home a loose ball in the box before the break. He doubled his tally after the interval with a brilliant first-time strike into the far corner, following a knock-down from Jake Cooper on Jenson Metcalfe’s free kick.
Alex Neil, who had joked that Arconte owed him two goals after the previous week’s missed opportunity at Bristol City, was visibly pleased. "I’ve been on him this week because he missed a sitter last week, and he should have scored," Neil said. "I told him he owes us two goals this week, so that’s why he’s pointed at me after the second goal. But a very good performance from him: threat, power, running. Really pleased."
Arconte’s celebration after the first goal was lively, but Neil admitted he was more focused on preparing the team for kick-off. "Those are moments for the players when they score, and they celebrate together and all that. I love all that for them, so they should enjoy it. Football’s a tough game, and there’s a lot of scrutiny around it just now, so when you perform well, enjoy those moments," he added.
From Rodez to Millwall
Arconte signed for Millwall from Ligue 2 side Rodez AF in the summer. He has made three appearances for the club so far, and his debut performance has already drawn attention from the club’s supporters and media alike.
Neil’s Lighthearted Challenge
Neil’s comment about Arconte owing him two goals was a playful nod to the striker’s earlier miss at Bristol City, where the 22-year-old hit the post from yards out with the goal gaping. The manager’s joke was a reminder of the high expectations placed on new signings and the pressure to deliver quickly.
The match ended with Norwich City unable to find a way past the Millwall defence, while Arconte’s two goals secured a comfortable win for the home side. The striker’s performance not only silenced the opposition but also set the tone for his future contributions to the club.
