Millwall ease past 10-man Norwich City 3-0
Millwall secured a comfortable 3-0 win over 10-man Norwich City at The Den on Saturday, with Tairyk Arconte scoring twice and Luke Cundle sealing the victory.
What happened?
The match saw Millwall take an early lead, with Camiel Neghli playing a lovely ball through for Josh Coburn whose shot crashed against the near post. Norwich should have taken the lead themselves shortly after when Anis Ben Slimane put the ball across the six-yard box only for Oscar Schwartau to somehow miskick wide from close range.
Why it matters for Norwich City
The Canaries' poor start to the season continues, with both of their opening games ending in defeat. They are currently 30 points behind leaders Coventry and have lost their last two matches.
What comes next?
Norwich City will look to bounce back from this defeat and get their season back on track. They have a tough run of fixtures ahead of them, including a match against Hull City, who they lost to 2-1 in their last outing.
Millwall's dominant performance
Millwall were almost ahead inside six minutes when Camiel Neghli played a lovely ball through for Josh Coburn whose shot crashed against the near post. The hosts thought they had scored a second after 26 minutes when Jake Cooper's header from Jenson Metcalfe's free kick found the top corner, but the linesman's offside flag cut short their celebrations.
Tairyk Arconte's double
The hosts deservedly went 2-0 ahead after 58 minutes when Zak Sturge's ball into the box was headed back by Cooper for Arconte to steer a volley into the bottom corner for his second. The Canaries' afternoon went from bad to worse in the 64th minute when Cordoba was sent off for a second yellow card after bundling over Arconte as he charged towards the visitors' area.
Norwich's reaction
Norwich City's manager Philippe Clement was disappointed with his team's performance, saying, "In the first half we were bullied. We didn't win duels, second balls, also when they pressed us, we were not brave enough on the ball, so there was not much (positive) in our first half."
League standing
Norwich City are currently 9th in the Championship, with 65 points from 46 games last season. They have scored 63 goals and conceded 56 so far this season, with a goal difference of +7.
Recent form
The Canaries have lost their last two matches, with a recent form of 1W-2D-2L (LLDDW, most recent first). They are currently without Mirko Topić, who is sidelined.
