Norwich City academy defender Jake Glossop has signed a new long-term contract with the club. The teenage full-back, a lifelong supporter from Fakenham, has pledged his future after advancing through the Canaries' youth setup. The senior side he aspires to join currently sits 15th in the Championship with 15 points from 13 games, having recorded five wins and eight defeats.
Glossop became part of the academy as a young child and agreed to his initial professional terms this year. His current season has been divided between the under-18 and under-21 squads, where he has become a frequent pick for coach Olly Lee. He found the net in a recent victory for the under-21 side against Derby County.
"It's a big deal to be offered another contract, and it means that I can really start working hard now and keep my head focused because I know I'm here to stay a long time," Glossop stated. He called the club a 'family club' and said he was delighted to play for the team he and his relatives follow.
The player, who considers himself an offensive full-back that likes to advance and make opportunities, appreciates the stability the new agreement offers. His current goal is to feature more for the under-21s to build experience and compete for a place with the senior team, which is currently without several players including top scorer M. Touré, who has five goals in seven appearances, due to injury.
This update arrives as the senior squad gets ready for a league match away at Derby on Tuesday 3 November. Norwich, having secured victories in their previous two outings against Watford and Charlton, are positioned in the middle of the standings. Their recent form reads two wins and three defeats from the last five, leaving them 13 points behind the league leaders. The upcoming game against Derby County presents a chance to continue that good form and improve upon a season where they have scored 23 goals but conceded 24.
Glossop's growth is encouraging for the club's academy, which keeps developing talent with aspirations of joining David Wagner's group. The defender's attention is now squarely on his ongoing development within the setup he has been part of for most of his life.
