Norwich City's Teemu Pukki and Emi Buendia formed a deadly partnership.

What made it work?

Pukki and Buendia's success was down to clever recruitment and a natural connection. Pukki scored 67 goals in three campaigns alongside Buendia, with 16 directly assisted by the Argentine.

The recruitment process

Former sporting director Stuart Webber led the recruitment effort, signing Buendia in January 2018 and Pukki in the summer of 2018. Buendia had been on loan at Cultural Leonesa, while Pukki had scored 20 goals or more in three consecutive seasons for Brondby.

The impact on the team

The partnership helped Norwich City win two Championship titles in three seasons. Pukki spoke to his former boss Daniel Farke, who brought the duo together on the pitch. As of the current season, Norwich City are 9th in the Championship, with 65 points from 46 games, and a recent form of LDWWL.

Current context

Norwich City are currently 30 points behind leaders Coventry. Pukki is happy to see Buendia succeeding at Aston Villa, recently crowned European champions. The Finn found goals harder to come by after Buendia's departure in 2021, netting 21 times over his final two seasons before moving on.
