Norwich City academy graduate Abu Kamara has completed a £2.5m move to Championship rivals Portsmouth, reuniting with the club where he spent a successful loan spell in 2023/24. The 23-year-old winger, who came through Norwich’s youth ranks, signs a three-year deal at Fratton Park after leaving Hull City this summer.
What happened in Kamara’s career since leaving Norwich?
Kamara joined Norwich’s academy in 2013 and progressed through the ranks, making his senior debut in 2023. After a loan spell at Portsmouth helped them win League One, he moved to Hull City in a £5m deal. He spent two seasons at the MKM Stadium, including a loan at La Liga side Getafe, before returning to the Championship with Pompey.
Why did Kamara leave Norwich City?
After a loan spell at Portsmouth, Kamara returned to Norwich but handed in a transfer request, forcing a move to Hull. Despite being linked with a future at Carrow Road under Johannes Hoff Thorup, the winger sought a fresh challenge. Norwich finished 9th in the Championship last season with 65 points, 30 behind leaders Coventry.
What does this mean for Norwich City’s squad?
Kamara’s departure leaves Norwich with one fewer attacking option as they prepare for the new Championship campaign. The Canaries scored 63 goals last season but will now rely on other forwards to fill the gap. Kamara is set to face his former club when Portsmouth visit Carrow Road on October 17.
