Norwich City have appointed Perry Northeast as their new head coach, with the 39-year-old set to join the Canaries on July 1 from Brighton & Hove Albion. Northeast will replace Andy Cook, who departed alongside assistant Ethan Scott last month, just 48 hours after the side’s play-off final penalty shoot-out victory over Moneyfields. Cook’s exit raised eyebrows at the time, with Norwich City head of women’s football Flo Allen later explaining that the decision was made for footballing reasons as the club prepares for life in the third tier. Following an extensive recruitment process, Northeast was identified as the leading candidate, having most recently served as Women and Girls' Academy Manager at Brighton. He arrives in Norfolk after almost seven years on the south coast with the Women’s Super League side, where he also held roles as women’s first-team coach, interim assistant head coach and girls’ academy technical manager. Northeast said: 'I’m feeling very fortunate and very lucky to be here. It's obviously a club that steeps in great tradition, real rich heritage and a club with a women's programme that's definitely on the rise.' He also spent almost eight years as the National Women’s Head Coach of England Beach Soccer. Northeast guided Portsmouth Women to a Tier 3 title in 2015 after winning the Premier League Southern Division. He has also worked with Team GB while spending over 10 years as a lecturer and coach development officer at the University of Chichester. Flo Allen said: 'Throughout the extensive recruitment process, it was clear that Perry’s approach aligns strongly with our footballing ideas and long-term strategy.' Northeast is set to implement a clear and detailed football methodology as the club prepares for an exciting step into Tier 3 of the women’s football pyramid. He will challenge and inspire those around him to continue driving forwards the women’s programme. The new head coach is looking forward to meeting the fans, who have been a big attraction for him. The club is confident that Northeast will be a great fit for the team and the community. The women's team is on the rise, and Northeast is the right person to lead them to success. The future is bright for Norwich City, and the appointment of Northeast is a big step in the right direction.
