Norwich City's former defender Danny Batth has signed a one-year deal with Alex Neil's Millwall, bringing his 'old school' credentials to the Championship. The 35-year-old made 16 league appearances for the Canaries in the 2023/24 season, before moving to Blackburn on a free. Batth has signed a one-year deal following a short pre-season trial and links up again with the Scot following their previous stint at Sunderland. The Lions missed out in the play-offs last season, after defying expectations to finish third under City's former Wembley winner Neil. Batth has clocked up more than 500 senior appearances since his breakthrough at boyhood club Wolves. 'He's an old-fashioned centre back. Danny will go and put his head on it. He's aggressive. He'll talk,' said Neil. 'We've already got good cover in that position, but we just need to make sure that we don't leave ourselves short. 'We just looked at Dan because we've got an appetite to try and get Kamarl Grant out on loan. We want him to go and try and play some games. We just need a bit of cover in that position.' Youngster Grant has now joined Bromley but Batth has clocked up more than 500 senior appearances since his breakthrough at boyhood club Wolves. 'You know when you come to Millwall what it is about,' he told his new club's official channels. 'It is a tough game. You're never going to get anything easy. That sits well with me and being part of it now I think I can add to that. 'And on and off the pitch bring my experience and my focus.' Philippe Clement takes Norwich to Millwall in the Canaries' first Championship away game on August 22. City stormed to an impressive 2-1 Easter Monday victory in last season's corresponding fixture. Batth is the seventh new signing for Neil's Lions this summer and was an unused substitute as they rounded off their pre-season with a 1-0 friendly win over Royal Antwerp at the Den. 'If you've got a team and you introduce maybe one or two, it's easy to get them up to speed quickly,' said Neil, quoted by the Southwark News. 'When you're trying to introduce five or six, that's when it starts to dilute the message a little bit because not only do they not fully understand it, but the one next to them might not understand it either. 'You can see we're moving the ball quicker. The understanding for the new lads is becoming better and better. That's naturally going to take a little bit of time.' Currently, Norwich City sits 9th in the Championship, 30 points behind leaders Coventry, with 63 goals scored and 56 conceded. They have a few injuries, with Mirko Topić currently sidelined.
