Jack Stacey and Ruairi McConville earned their first Championship starts of the season for Norwich City against Burnley. Philippe Clement made six changes to his side as the Canaries, 20th in the table with three points from four games, aimed for their first league points of the campaign at Carrow Road.
Stacey and McConville replaced Kellen Fisher and Harry Darling after impressing in Tuesday's Carabao Cup win at Cardiff City. Clement restored most of his first-choice options following heavy midweek rotation. Ben Chrisene started after a back problem forced him out of the Cardiff warm-up, while Vladan Kovacevic, Jose Cordoba, Kenny McLean, Andre Brooks and Mo Toure all returned. Anthony Musaba kept his place for his first league start.
Ante Crnac was named among the substitutes following his return from a long-term injury against Cardiff. His inclusion marked the first time he had been in a league squad since last October. The bench also included Jonny Wright, Christian Kvistgaarden and Kellen Fisher, providing attacking options.
Several players continued their recoveries. Paris Maghoma, who missed the trips to Millwall and Cardiff, returned to grass training earlier in the week as he steps up from a calf problem. Jovon Makama, currently sidelined, returned to team training late in the week following a foot injury, though his reintegration will be managed carefully. Gabe Forsyth played in an internal game before featuring for the Under-21s on Friday, progressing from an 18-month absence.
Norwich's injury list remains significant. Mirko Topic, Lucien Mahovo and Ali Ahmed are all long-term absentees with ACL and ankle injuries. Their status is tracked on the club's injuries page. Amankwah Forson and Jakov Medic have not featured in a matchday squad this season and remain available for moves before the transfer window closes.
The team's need for points was clear from their league standing. Ahead of kick-off, Norwich sat 20th in the Championship with just one win and three losses from their opening four fixtures. They had scored five goals but conceded seven, leaving them with a negative goal difference and seven points behind early leaders Swansea City.
Attention quickly turns to the next fixture, an away trip to face Sheffield United on September 5th. The Blades are currently 9th in the table, presenting another tough test.
